Education Resources at the Falkirk Wheel

A fantastic educational day out

The Falkirk Wheel offers a high quality, tailored education programme for a fantastic educational day out.

Each programme includes a 50 minute boat trip, followed by one of four 30 - 40 minute workshops, which have been specifically designed for primary children, to link in with different Curriculum for Excellence experiences and outcomes.

Workshops

  • Shaping the landscape looks at local history, how the local industries have changed and the impact this has had on the geography of the area.

  • Build a canal uses a interactive sandbox to teach children about why and how canals were built.

  • Taking care of our world looks at the preservation of our world, as we investigate what needs protecting around The Wheel such as local habitats and organisms and what we could do to protect those things.

  • Building structures explores the incredible innovation that is The Falkirk Wheel.  Discover how it came to be here, who was responsible for building it and learn about the design.

The programme costs £4 per child, and all teachers, helpers and carers go free.  Each school will receive a free guide book prior to their visit and teachers are entitled to a free familiarisation visit after booking.

Other facilities provided include:

  • Free coach parking on-site
  • Free tea / coffee for coach drivers
  • Coat / bag storage
  • Lunch space
  • Teacher notes
