Independent Chair announced for Lowland Canals Volunteer Group

We are delighted to announce that Professor John Hume OBE has been appointed to the role of Independent Chair of the Lowland Canals Volunteer Group.

John is very well known across the Lowland canals. He has been actively involved with the management of the Scottish canals for more than 40 years and Chair of the user group since 2002.

John was also a co-founder of the Seagull Trust in 1978 and active in establishing both the Kirkintilloch and Falkirk branches of the charity. In his role at Historic Scotland as Cheif Inspector of Historic Buildings, John was involved in scheduling the Scottish canals as monuments of National Importance.

John is also a Trustee of The Waterways Trust and has been since 1999.
