As well as the calm waters of the Caledonian Canal there are the
challenging open waters of Loch Lochy and Loch Ness and the guide
is brimful of helpful advice on how to deal with the
conditions as well as food, equipment, safety
and communication.
Donald himself is a seasoned paddler and says of his experience
helping develop the new trail: "The two year post of Project
Officer for the Great Glen Canoe Trail was always going to be
exciting and challenging. It has been a privilege to promote the
Scottish Highlands as a fantastic paddling destination
through this project."
The Great Glen Canoe Trail is a partnership project delivered by
British Waterways Scotland, The Highland Council (Planning and
Development Service), Scottish Natural Heritage, Forestry
Commission Scotland and the Scottish Canoe Association.
Offering international and national paddlers the
opportunity of travelling along the two hundred year old Scheduled
Ancient Monument amidst an area of stunning geology and magnificent
forests, the Trail will run between Fort William and
Inverness, taking in four lochs including the challenging
waters of Loch Ness.
The Great Glen Canoe Trail will be formally opened in
Spring 2012.
The guide is priced £12.99 and can be purchased at canal offices
in Inverness and Fort William (Corpach), the Visitor Centre in Fort
Augustus or online from www.pesdapress.com. It is
also available in high street bookshops.
