The Prince of Wales Renews His Patronage of The Waterways Trust Scotland

28 Mar 2012

It is announced today that His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, a long-time supporter of the waterways, will renew His patronage of The Waterways Trust Scotland.

Professor John Hume OBE, Chair of The Waterways Trust Scotland, says:

"We are absolutely thrilled that The Prince of Wales will continue as Patron of The Waterways Trust Scotland.

"This year will be the beginning of an exciting new chapter in our growth and development. As a passionate advocate for heritage, nature, communities and tourism, The Prince will be an important voice of support for the Trust and inspiration to us as we take a step change in growing our relationships with waterside communities and developing our programmes in skills and confidence building, employability, health and active living and volunteering."

The Waterways Trust Scotland plays a key role in bringing the canals of Scotland to life as hubs of activity and opportunity for local waterside communities and people who want to care for the two hundred year old waterways.

The Trust creates and fundraises for programmes which get people out and about on the canals, whether walking and taking in the heritage and wildlife, helping improve the waterside environment and learning new skills which increase confidence and employability.

The Trust also plays an integral part in developing new amenities on the Scottish canals including the new interactive Water Play area at The Falkirk Wheel.
