What do you use the canal for?

Fishing in the Union Canal

Pike, Roach, Perch, Tench, Dace, Common Bream, Silver Bream and Ruffle can all be caught in the Union Canal.

Get started with a spot of canal fishing. Roach and Perch are the most common species throughout the canal, and can easily be caught using maggots, pinkies, worms or bread as hookbait. Great beginners' fishing experience.

IMPORTANT - WORKS

Lock 8 (Falkirk) Closure - 5th to 13th May 2012

Our inspection process has detected a fault in the lock cill at lock 8 in Falkirk, under normal circumstances this type of work is carried out in the winter period, however we have looked at the cill condition and to ensure a shorter closure period a more immediate response makes more sense, we therefore plan to do this between Sat 5 May to Sun 13 May (inclusive)

This means Lock 8 will be closed to all navigation from 5 to 13 May. The Towpath will also be closed, although an alternative public footpath is available. Users should take extra care around the work site.

We apologise for this inconvenience.

If you have any concerns please contact the Boaters Helpline on 0845 676 6000.

Twechar Towpath Closure - 30th to 4th May 2012

Mon 30 Apr to Fri 4 May (inclusive). The Towpath will be closed for surface upgrading and there will be no pedestrian or cyclist access.

Unfortunately, there is no suitable diversion and walkers and cyclists will need to access the main carriageway for a distance of c.500m. Please note there is no public footpath on the carriageway.

We apologise for this major inconvenience but unfortunately it is not possible to keep the towpath open during these works.
