Falkirk

British Waterways Scotland are working in partnership with Falkirk Council to promote a major residential-led mixed use regeneration project at Portdownie in Falkirk.  The 58 hectare site adjoins The Falkirk Wheel and stretches along the Forth & Clyde canal on one side and the World Heritage Status Antonine Wall on the other.  The proposed development will transform the site which is heavily contaminated from historic industrial land uses and will provide improved access into The Falkirk Wheel.

  • Portdownie

The proposed masterplan has been developed by leading Edinburgh firm Michael Laird Architects and incorporates a vibrant mix of 525 housing units, commercial space, hotel and 60 berth marina. The historic Union Inn pub which used to overlook the series of locks linking the Forth & Clyde and Union canals will be renovated and extended and will form part of a an exciting and vibrant commercial hub overlooking the new marina.

  • Rosebank

The former Rosebank Distillery represents a significant landmark on the western approach into Falkirk. Following the development of a high quality residential scheme by Westpoint Homes on the banks of the Forth & Clyde canal, British Waterways Scotland are currently formulating proposals to develop the remaining land and series of listed buildings including the former distillery and bonded warehouse.
