Fort Augustus

Ft. Augustus is a mature canalside destination with over 300,000 visitors per year, who are fascinated by the five interconnecting locks, which dominate the main street.

British Waterways Scotland has a number of small but incredibly important sites which we wish to develop in consultation with the Community and The Highland Council.

  • A New Retail & Toursim Centre

British Waterways, in partnership with the community and The Highland Council are developing proposals for a "one stop shop" for tourism adjacent to the Clansman Centre, Ft. Augustus.

  • Architectural Designs for Vacant Sites

Development opportunities within Ft. Augustus include streetscape infill sites, conversion of heritage buildings, waterspace integration and tourism development. All site are located either side of the Lock flight, which is integral to the success of Ft. Augustus. British Waterways will work with the local community and The Highland Council to develop plans for the redevelopment of the following sites.
