Top tips

  • Do you supply water points?
Yes but you must bring your own hose as we do not supply these.
  • How can I make passage easier?
Share a lock with other boats to ease the workload.
  • What length of warps should I have?
Make sure you have warps of 10 metres in length. It is best to ensure you get the stern rope ashore first and have sufficient fenders in place. Warps should have a bowline tied ready for mooring to lock side bollards.
  • When is the last locking or bridge movement?
30 minutes before closing time. In peak summer, please allow extra time as there may well be other boats waiting to lock when you arrive. You will find the operating times on the boating pages.
  • How can I best prepare if I have not made passage before?
Download and read the skipper's guide. If you are in any doubt, please contact the office in advance where one of our staff will be happy to help you.
