Cairnbaan Swing Bridge

Essential works to replace the control mechanism and signage on Cairnbaan Swing Bridge will get underway in 2019/2020.

This project has been temporarily postponed due to revised priorities and is expected to be completed as part of the 2019/20 Asset Management Plan.

The Crinan Canal is one of Argyll & Bute’s most popular visitor attractions with over 1,600 boats transiting the canal each year.

Cairnbaan Swing Bridge is a public road bridge with outdated operation mechanisms making the bridge unreliable. To ensure the continued safe passage of boat traffic through the bridge and vehicles over the bridge, essential works which include the replacement of the control mechanism and signage will get underway in 2019/2020.

These works will ensure the bridge meets current safety and compliance regulations.
