The Crinan Canal is one of Argyll & Bute’s most popular visitor attractions with over 1,600 boats transiting the canal each year. The 200-year old scheduled monument hosts 15 pairs of lock gates, all of which are nearing the end of their life expectancy.
To ensure the continued use of Crinan Canal, by boat, boot or bike for years to come, essential surveying and diving works will be conducted on the canal this winter.
Works will commence along the eastern section of the canal, from Lock 1 to Lock 6 and will involve the surveying of lock gates. In order to do this, the canal will be closed to navigation from 15:00 on Friday 10th January until 08:30 on Monday 2nd March 2020.
During the works there may be localised disruption along the towpath and at lock gates; we will communicate further on this as specific dates and times are confirmed.
