Gairlochy Swing Bridge

Works to repair the surface and upgrade Gairlochy Swing Bridge's drive mechanism will get underway in 2019/2020.

Update June 2019

Repairs on one of the lock gates at Gairlochy will be carried out in June, which will see lockings reduced to the following times on Friday 28th June: 08.00, 12.30 and 17.00.

Update April 2019

This project has been temporarily postponed due to revised priorities and is expected to be completed as part of the 2019/20 Asset Management Plan.

Gairlochy Swing Bridge on the Caledonian Canal is a public road bridge with an uneven surface and ageing mechanisms which now affect the reliability of the bridge.

To ensure the safety of road users and return the bridge to a more reliable state which will allow Scottish Canals staff to operate the bridge safely, works will be carried out to repair the surface and upgrade the bridge’s drive mechanism.
