The Caledonian Canal is one of the Highlands most popular visitor attractions with over 1,400 boats transiting the canal each year.
Maintenance of the lock gates is vital to maintain the navigation of this almost 200-year-old waterway, and in 2019 we replaced the gates at Kytra Lock. In our 2020-21 works programme, we will be installing actuators at Kytra Lock and undertaking control system upgrades.
As part of this scope of works, actuators and the associated infrastructure will be installed and commissioned at Kytra Lock between Monday 2nd November 2020 and Friday 29th January 2021. The canal will be closed to navigation during the works and there will also be towpath restrictions in this area.
We will update this page as works progress.
