Here’s your handy list to what is open and when at The Falkirk Wheel and Horsebox @ The Kelpies. We will continue to review our opening hours and services in line with the latest government advice and will update this page with any changes.

When will you reopen the Visitor Centre at The Falkirk Wheel and do I need to wear a face covering to enter?
The visitor centre, retail space and grab and go food and drinks is currently closed.
The Falkirk Wheel & Horsebox @ The Kelpies take-away catering re-opened on Thursday 8 April, this was in line with the Scottish Government replacing the ‘Stay at Home’ message with ‘Stay Local’ from 2nd April 2021.
When we are able to reopen, face coverings should be worn in the Visitor Centre unless you are exempt. This includes in our cafe area, where face coverings should also be worn when you are not seated.
Do I need to register my contact details as part of NHS Scotland Test & Protect Service?
We are asking visitors to The Falkirk Wheel to register their details (name and contact number) with us as part of the NHS Test & Protect scheme. A member of staff may ask you for your information or you will be asked to enter this on our free wifi feature.

What additional safety measures is Scottish Canals putting in place?
The safety and well being of customers, staff and visitors is our top priority. Scottish Canals will adopt strict physical distancing, segregation and hygiene measures to minimise the risk of transmitting Covid-19. This includes:
- Installing cough screens at transaction points across all our destinations
- Managing queues to make sure people keep apart using floor markers and one-way systems
- Displaying signage at key locations to remind people of the importance of physical distancing and good hand and cough hygiene
- Installing hand sanitation stations at entry and exit points across all our buildings for staff and customers
Is the car park open?
Yes, the car park is currently open at The Falkirk Wheel and costs £3.50 for a ticket. The car park is also open at The Helix Park for access to The Kelpies.
I was planning to bring my children is there anything for them to do?
Our boat trips and outdoor activities are currently unavailable. In line with government advice we are preparing to resume boat trips from the end of April. Please check here for the latest availability and to book your tickets.
The play parks will open from Saturday 10th April.
The towpaths and trails offer plenty of space for children to explore by boot or bike. Or if you are feeling more adventurous you could take on The Wheel-2-Kelpies Selfie Trail.
What types of food and drinks are available?
Our takeaway catering includes, hot drinks, cakes, hot dogs and more.
I had booked a boat trip at The Falkirk Wheel, what happens now?
We are offering all customers the opportunity to re-book boat trips within six months of existing bookings at no additional cost. To amend your booking please email TFW_bookings@scottishcanals.co.uk and quote your original booking reference.
If you have booked via a third party including Itison then please contact your booking agent.
When will boat trips return?
We hope to resume boat trips from Monday 26th April in line with government advice. You can book your trip online here.
