By car

Free onsite parking (suitable for coaches and buses) is available on the A814, just off Dumbarton Road.

By public transport

There is a regular train service from Glasgow Queen Street to Bowling Train Station. Visit for timetables and tickets.

First Bus Routes 1A and 1B also take you from Glasgow to Bowling. Visit for details.

By foot or bike

Heading out of the cosmopolitan city of Glasgow you will be surprised by how quickly you find peace and wildlife on the Forth & Clyde Canal. As you cycle towards the sea at Bowling Basin, you’ll delight in the beautiful countryside views. This is also the route of the NCN 754 cycleway.

Access: The nearest mainline railway station to the start point at Speirs Wharf is Glasgow Queen Street. You can also travel to Glasgow Central. See If you are driving park in Glasgow at one of many car parks. Please note that bikes are not always allowed on the Subway underground network.

Start: Speirs Wharf (G4) is accessed by following the signs for the Forth and Clyde Canal via Craighall Road or Garscube Road, Glasgow. You will also see the blue signs starting from the back of Cowcaddens Subway Station.

Finish: Bowling Basin, off Dumbarton Road (A82).

Return: Via train from Bowling to Glasgow, or by bike. You could also retrace the route to Westerton Railway Station to Glasgow.

Distance: 20km / 12 miles (1 Hour approx) / Walking: 3 hours 30 / Train: 40 minutes

Terrain: Flat traffic free path along the Forth & Clyde canal; mix of tarmac, gritted tarmac and some cobblestones.

Bikes: Hybrid and mountain bikes.

Complete our online enquiry form or call us on 08700 500 208 to make your booking in advance. Payment will be taken at point of booking.

You don’t need to book your activity in advance, however we can’t guarantee there will be spaces available on the day so to avoid disappointment we do recommend booking in advance.


Bookings that are cancelled less than 48 hours from the booked activity date will be charged at the full rate. Cancellations with more than 48 hours notice will receive full refund.

If you need to amend your booking please give us 48 hours notice.


Please complete a Medical and Consent Form for each participant/activity and bring along with you on the day.

Please note that under 16s must have parental consent, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
