Flotilla 200!

Boats from across central Scotland gathered on 20th and 21st May 2022 to mark the bicentenary of the Union Canal with a celebratory flotilla. Have a look at the video below to see some of the festivities and hear from MSPs and canal users who enjoyed the event:

 

Follow the Flotilla!

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Union Canal, a flotilla of music, entertainment, and festivities will take place between Friday 20th and Sunday 22nd May 2022.

Boats will move from Lochrin Basin in the East and The Falkirk Wheel in the West to converge at Manse Road Basin in Linlithgow on the evening of Saturday 22nd May.

From the East

The flotilla in the East will depart from Lochrin Basin, Edinburgh Quay at 12pm on Friday 20th of May 2022.

Come along to wave off the flotilla at Lochrin Basin at 12.15, where Boroughmuir Pipe Band will be playing, before following boats along to Harrison Park. You’ll enjoy live music and a world premier event: “Union Caledonia 200” which sees multi international award-winning young Edinburgh composer & musician, 14 year old Viktor Seifert’s, composition  performed on-board a canal boat at Harrison Park, Edinburgh at 1.30pm.

Then watch the flotilla travel onwards to Prince Charlie Aqueduct with musicians on board, arriving around 2pm.

The next muster point is Bridge 8 Hub in Cadder Crescent, where boats will begin to arrive from 4.15 pm before they make their way to Rusack’s Bridge at Ratho Canal Centre for overnight mooring.

On Saturday, boats will depart around 10am and head for Bridge 19-40 Canal Society at Port Buchan, Broxburn. Boats are expected to arrive from 11.40am before departing at 12.15. Boats will then make two more muster stops, at Bridge 32, Winchburgh at 1pm and Narrowboat Farm Linlithgow at 3pm before making the final leg of the journey to Manse Road Basin in Linlithgow.

 

From the West

Boats from the West will depart from The Falkirk Wheel, leaving from Lime Road at 10.30am. The flotilla will follow on to Redding/Brightons, scheduled to arrive from 11.30am before departing at 12 noon for Muiravonside/Whitecross.

The flotilla will then depart at 1.30pm for the next muster point at Woodcockdale where they will be hosted by 1st West Lothian Sea Scouts from 2.30pm. At 3.15pm the flotilla will then depart to join boats from the East at the final muster point at Manse Road Basin, Linlithgow
