Message from the Skies

Inspired by Scotland’s Year of Coast and Waters, Message from the Skies sees four letters by well-known Scottish writers projected onto a building or landmark around Edinburgh which has a maritime or coastal theme, location or history.

At the Lochrin Basin on the Union Canal, we welcome Kathleen Jamie’s Seascape with WEC. The letter will be illuminated between 4:30pm and 10:00pm from 1st to 25th January 2020.

Other authors and locations of this project include Charlotte Runcie’s Lightkeepers at Northern Lighthouse Board in George Street; Kayus Bankole’s Sugar for Your Tea at the City Chambers on High Street; Robert Robertson’s Ten Thousand Miles of Edge at Nelson Monument on Calton Hill and Irvine Welsh’s The Sea at Malmaison Hotel, Tower Place, Leith.

Message from the Skies is a literary and video project for Underbelly’s production of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay. It is a co-commission by Edinburgh’s Hogmanay and Edinburgh International Book Festival. Produced by Underbelly, in partnership with Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature Trust. Developed with support from Creative Scotland through the Scottish Government’s Festivals Expo Fund.
