Scottish Canals is proposing to undertake a new development adjacent to the Muirtown Basin on the Caledonian Canal in Inverness. The proposed development will create a new multi-use facility accessible to the surrounding communities, local groups and clubs.
The development will provide improved access links to the canal network for leisure use, boaters and water sports users whilst aiming to create a closer link with the South Kessock and Merkinch residential areas.
The project aims to provide a multi-use hub building accessible and useable for the South Kessock and Merkinch local businesses, groups, organisations and charities. The development will also include a new canal-side café accessible to the local community and canal users.
Other elements will include pedestrian and cyclist access improvements to facilitate an increase in usage of the canal network and improvements and enhancement to the natural habitat within the site boundary to provide access to nature for the local community.
Working alongside our design team, Scottish Canals have developed the overall concept of the project taking in to consideration the early feedback provided by stakeholders. The design progression to date has allowed us to be in a position to share the details of the development with the public at upcoming consultation events to gather further feedback and input to shape the final project outcomes.
