The Forth & Clyde Canal is a 200 year old heritage asset which once fired the industrial revolution. Today it contributes to the Scottish Government agenda of developing a Greener; Healthier; Smarter; Safer and Stronger; and Wealthier and Fairer Scotland.
As set out in our Asset Management Strategy 2018-30 we prioritise works throughout the canal network in terms of criticality and impact. During winter 2020-21 we will be undertaking a series of surveys of numerous lock gates along the canal to inspect and investigate the need for improvement works.
Areas we will be surveying this financial year include:
Glasgow:
- Lock gates 20 and Wyndford and 21 at Maryhill
- Lock 25 Maryhill – sinkhole investigation.
- Lock gates 30 and 31 in Glasgow
Falkirk:
- Lock 9 Falkirk
- Lock 5 Bainsford
Throughout the surveying period there will be little to no impact to navigation or towpath access.
This page will be updated as works progress.
