Bowling Sea Lock Temporary Closure

Update 22nd June 2020

Works will resume at Bowling Sea Lock on Monday 29th June. The essential repair works will see a replacement gear box installed so the sea lock can become operational again. However, due to current government restrictions, lock gates will not be in operation until Phase Three of the Scottish Government’s route map out of lockdown. This is planned for 22nd July on the Forth and Clyde Canal but is subject to change following Government guidelines.

Update 23rd March 2020

Due to coronavirus and government lockdown restrictions, works at Bowling Sea Lock have been temporarily postponed. Works will resume in line with government advice, when it is safe to do so.

Due to an operational failure at Bowling Sea Lock, the Forth & Clyde Canal is temporarily closed to through navigation at Bowling.

Repairs are currently in progress, with the sea lock expected to reopen in April.
