All works are now complete, and Fort Augustus Swing Bridge is now operational as normal.
The road closure and repair works organised by BEAR / Transport Scotland yesterday evening were successful, and Fort Augustus Swing Bridge is operational again.
Our maintenance team are on site today to carry out further work to reinstate the bridge automation, and there may be minor delays to boat traffic – however, where possible, this work will be carried out around boat movements.

Please be advised that emergency repairs to the A82 Fort Augustus Swing Bridge will shortly be carried out this afternoon, Thursday 24 April, to ensure the bridge continues to operate to a safe standard.
The bridge will be swung open at approximately 3.45pm to allow engineers to access and inspect the bridge components and allow full repairs to be carried out this afternoon.
Whilst the bridge currently poses no safety risk to motorists, pedestrians or canal traffic, the repairs are required to avoid any issues during the forthcoming Easter Holiday period and ensure the bridge will remain in full safe operational order. The repairs are anticipated to be completed by early evening.
A signed diversion will be put in place for motorists and will be lifted once the bridge repairs have been completed. This diversion is via A87 Invergarry – Bun Loyne – A887 Invermoriston. Access will be maintained up to the bridge in both directions but there will be no access over the bridge.
