Update 25th August, 8.30am
Following the detailed inspection carried out by our engineering team on the Fort Augustus lock flight on 24th August 2018, for safety reasons we have decommissioned the second set of lock gates.
We have identified a safe way of continuing to operate the lock flight but this may cause operational disruption to our boating customers as we explore a longer term solution. While this could take some time we will endeavour to do all we can to minimise any inconvenience and we will continue to keep customers informed.
Friday 17th August, 2pm
Following recent above-water inspections of the lock gates at Fort Augustus, an engineering inspection team will be carrying out detailed investigations on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th August.
Boat movements through the lock flight will be restricted to Thursday morning only with operations suspended all day Friday. The local lock keeping team will work closely with boaters to move as many vessels as possible to the West and East before Thursday closure.
These investigations will inform engineering works to the gates that are planned to take place later this year.
