Update 24th July
The Forth & Clyde Canal has reopened to sea to sea transits.
Emergency repairs to the failed cill at lock 9 on the Forth & Clyde Canal have been completed successfully. The gates were tested on Friday and we had to allow ‘curing’ time for the cill.
We’d like to offer our thanks to boaters for their patience and understanding during the works.
Update 19th July
Divers have been on site to undertake reconstruction works to the bottom cill. The timber cill has been inspected and refitted to the chamber at the downstream lock gates with concrete reinforcement on the reconstructed cill. A further update should follow on Friday 21st July.
Update 10th July
Dive teams will be on site from Wednesday 12th July to inspect the cill and determine how we can bring the lock back into use.
Update 30th June
The Forth & Clyde Canal is currently closed to sea to sea transits following a cill failure at lock nine in Falkirk. Local movements are still possible and Scottish Canals is investigating what repairs are needed.
