Whether it’s to check email or share pictures of The Falkirk Wheel to friends and family, visitors to the world’s only rotating boat lift are now able to get connected to the internet from around the site using a newly installed free Wi-Fi service.
During The Wheel’s annual winter maintenance, Scottish Canals installed a free public Wi-Fi service to the attraction that is available now to visitors across the campus. Scottish Canals has also teamed up with Friendly Wi-Fi to ensure that the connection provided has been independently accredited as filtering inappropriate content not suitable for families enjoying a trip to the site. Friendly WiFi is an accreditation service initiated by the UK Government to ensure public Wi-Fi meets minimum filtering standards, particularly around children.
“The Falkirk Wheel is one of Scotland’s top tourism attractions, with more than 500,000 people paying a visit to the site each year. We are always looking for ways to improve the experience for our visitors and we were aware of many of our customers enquiring about Wi-Fi availability. This new solution gives great coverage across the site and allows our visitors to get connected for free while they are here.
Andrew goes on to say “Having a safe and reliable Wi-Fi service is becoming a ‘must have’ for any modern tourist attraction and the newly revamped conference centre at The Wheel will also benefit from the enhanced coverage and connectivity that is now available. We also have the opportunity to use this new infrastructure as a platform to implement further improvements to the customer experience at the world’s only rotating boat lift.”
