Scottish Canals’ response to flooding at Broxburn

We are aware of flooding in the Broxburn and Linlithgow areas on the evening of 27th August 2020, which occurred as a result of heavy rainfall  from surface water runoff and local watercourses, and are confident that this was not caused by water leaking from, or overtopping, the canal.

Our teams attended the site on the evening of the 27th August, and joined a multi- agency response and were able to confirm that the canal network was being managed and remained safe throughout the incident.

Our teams continue to carry out detailed inspections across the Union Canal and surrounding area at Broxburn, and continue to work with West Lothian Council and other partners to ensure a joined up approach.

Updates will be available on our website and our social channels.
