Summer volunteer improvements along the Forth & Clyde Canal

Phew, what a busy month August has been.  Firstly, we would like to welcome our first volunteer work boat, Lochrin, to the team.  The boat will help us maintain the offside of the canal, cutting back vegetation and combating some of the hard to reach litter.

In the run up to Kirkintilloch Canal Festival we had the volunteers out in force, painting, clearing and cutting back over grown veg to allow the trip boats better passenger access.  It fair tidied the place up and created #canalmagic to the area.

Auchinstarry Sensory Gardens has seen its fair bit of fantastic volunteers too.  The leaf group & Streetwise Services supplied many green fingers teaching John & Carol many new techniques.

Our wild flower meadow at Lock 35 is starting to take shape, it’s a labour of love and we hope, fingers crossed that our wee flowers take hold and look super bonny in the spring.

Tragically the weather was very unkind to us at the Falkirk wheel and out SSE volunteer day was called short, however we did get through a power of work and its prepped ready for a bunch of willing painters to come and compete the task.
