We have been made aware of a vandalised bridge on the Union Canal (Sunday 8th May 2022)

Unfortunately the canal will not be reopened to boat traffic on Friday 13th May as anticipated. We are still working to clear the obstruction with safe passage expected from Tuesday 17th May 2022.
Update Tuesday 10th May 2022
Our team are working hard to ensure all obstructions are removed from the canal to allow boats to pass safely. It is anticipated that the canal will reopen to boat traffic in this area in the afternoon of Friday 13th May 2022.
Update Monday 9th May 2022
The local team has attended the site and are currently making the bridge safe for pedestrians. However, the obstruction in the canal is more extensive than anticipated and so will take slightly longer to remove.
To ensure the safety of boaters and their vessels, we would ask our boating customers to refrain from passing this section of the Union Canal until we are able to remove the obstruction.
