Our operations teams have been taking advantage of the quieter winter season to carry out a number of works, right across the canal network.

Aberchalder and Laggan Swing Bridges
Bear Scotland have been carrying out major works to these trunk road bridges during the winter closure.
Banavie Rail Bridge
Network Rail have been repairing the rail bridge in order to improve its operational reliability after 2017’s unexpected failures.
Corpach and Laggan Locks
Divers have repaired the sluices at Corpach and Laggan Locks. This will be beneficial to the operation of both lock sites.
Tomnahurich Swing Bridge
Contractors have replaced the operating mechanism, installed computerised controls and CCTV systems for better safety, reliability and operator visibility.
Muirtown Swing Bridge
Contractors have replaced the slew drive which will improve the reliability of this busy bridge.
Kytra and Dochgarroch
Scottish Canals staff have been redecking pontoons at Kytra and Dochgarroch with nonslip mini mesh decking which requires less maintenance and has improved grip in adverse weather conditions.
Work is about to start to refurbish the large craft jetty at Gairlochy so that it will be available to our resident hotel boats and other large craft visiting the canal for many years to come.
Scottish Canals staff have repainted many of the canals’ facility blocks when they’ve been forced away from other outdoor work by harsh weather.
Ardrishaig breakwater repointing stonework joints improving visitor safety.
Ardrishaig Bridge wigwag and PLC replacement to improve operational reliability.

Re-decking works are about to start on Oakfield Bridge to maintain its operational integrity.
Lock Gate replacement gangway planks, bolts and fixings on all locks.
Towpath resurfacing works are complete from towpath cottage to Oakfield Bridge.
Works are complete on Crinan Pier surface greatly improving visitor safety.
