£580,000 funding from Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund has been granted to deliver a mixed use Maritime Hub at the Gleaner Oil site in Ardrishaig.
This funding will support the development of an important waterfront site in the heart of village, identified as a key location for regeneration through Crinan Corridor: Rethink the Link community charrette held in 2016.
The first phase of the work will deliver new and refurbished buildings, suitable for leisure, community, arts and crafts, and food and drink businesses and is expected to start later in the year.
Chris Breslin, Head of Regeneration and Development at Scottish Canals has said:
“We’re delighted that Ardrishaig has been awarded funding as it is an important destination, not only on the Crinan Canal, but for Argyll & Bute in general.
“This money will fund the first phase of the development work at the former Gleaner Oil depot in Ardrishaig and will have major benefits to the village as this site has lain empty for a number of years. Over the next year, the former egg crate shed on the site will be converted and extended for commercial and social enterprise for community use, celebrating the site’s unique maritime location and contributing significantly to the local economy.”
