This plan depicts the survey undertaken by George Langlands in 1794. The plan was mounted on linen and reprinted by Daniel Smith in Glasgow on the 13th October 1823.
The Crinan Canal, 9 miles in length, and called ‘the most beautiful shortcut in the world’ received its Act of Parliament giving authorisation for construction to begin in 1793, and was completed in 1809.
