In a Nutshell

We look after the Scottish canals, conserving them as part of our heritage, and transforming them to play a vital role in Scotland today.

What we do

As well as the management and development of five Scottish canals, Scottish Canals care for bridges, buildings, locks, The Falkirk Wheel, The Kelpies and 19 water supply reservoirs in locations across Scotland.

The Forth & Clyde, Union and Monkland canals in the Lowlands, and the Crinan Canal and the Caledonian Canal in the Highlands, together extend over 140 miles from coast to coast, across country and into the cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness.

The Forth & Clyde, Union, Monkland, Caledonian and Crinan canals attract over 20 million visits per year.
