Explore our magical digital Canal Encounters trail on the free Falkirk Explored app.

As you walk along the canal, turn on your GPS and you will unlock badges with special content hidden behind them – walk to all 18 points in any order for the full trail or collect just a few on any stretch.

Each mile of the canal includes different games and stories!

Across the full trail…

  • 8 audio tracks uncover hidden stories about the history of the canals
  • 6 animated animals introduce you to some of the canals inhabitants
  • 3 augmented reality games allow you to help scientist Maddie and the mythical ocean goddess STORM clean up the canal
  • 1 specially created model of the Falkirk Wheel gets you up close and personal with the engineering marvel on our doorstep

STORM is inspired by Vision Mechanics 10 metre high puppet, created to celebrate Scotland’s Year of Coasts & Waters and to inspire conversation about the importance of protecting our waterways.

The 18 digital badges that you can collect along the trail represent different elements of local identity, history and nature.

They were designed by artist Alice Dansey-Wright working with primary school children as part of a partnership project with Camelon Arts.
