Due to insufficient water supplies on the Falkirk Flight and the surrounding feeder streams, boat movements have been temporarily suspended on the Forth & Clyde Canal between Lock 3 and Lock 16.

The canal is open to navigation from The Falkirk Wheel heading west towards Glasgow and Bowling and Kelpies' sealocks remain operational.

We appreciate your patience and apologise for any inconvenience during this time.

Our Asset Inspection and Maintenance Team will take advantage of low water levels to undertake detailed "below water line" inspections and maintenance.

It is envisaged low water levels will continue for a further three weeks.

UPDATE 23/09/24: Interim repair works are now complete and a Scottish Canals tugboat will make its way through the channel carrying out safety inspections. Following this, a further assessment will be made to advise on next steps. Navigation will remain suspended between locks 3 and 16 while this is concluded. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. For specific customer boat movement enquiries please contact our teams direct.

UPDATE 06/09/24: Following detailed “below water line” inspections significant repair issues have been identified at Lock 11, Camelon, Falkirk. We will endeavour to carry out these repair works to the gate over the next two weeks. Once they have been completed this will allow us to assess the safety of the repaired gate and wider lock flight to allow a small opportunity for boats to pass through.

A further update on navigation will be made available on 23rd September 2024. Please note as with any construction works, dates are subject to change and delays.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. For specific customer boat movement enquiries please contact our teams direct.

UPDATE 27/08/24: Please note our teams have now concluded detailed “below water line” inspections.
