About us
What we care for
- Management and maintenance of a number of canals and waterways in Scotland
- Maintenance and operation of a number of locks, bridges, tunnels, aqueducts and other structures along these waterways
- Managing the surrounding towpaths, visitor facilities and heritage sites
- Ensuring that the waterways are safe and accessible for all users, including boaters, cyclists, walkers and wildlife
Maintaining and developing the canals
As well as the management and development of five Scottish canals, we care for bridges, buildings, locks, The Falkirk Wheel, The Kelpies and 19 water supply reservoirs in locations across Scotland. We work across a range of projects covering a range of different initiatives to improve safety, develop new spaces, innovation and engage with our communities.
Maintaining and developing the canalsWho we work with
We work with a range of partners at national and local levels. This ensures that the right people are involved in the sustainable conservation and transformation of the canals. By working together we create the best opportunities for the canals and their communities.
Sustainability
Sustainability lies at the very core of Scottish Canals' ethos. With a commitment to preserving the environment, fostering biodiversity, and ensuring the well-being of local communities.
