Lily Loch Reservoir: Essential works upgrade
Under Scottish Canals’ Capital Investment Plan 2023/24 essential works have got underway at Lily Loch Reservoir, in North Lanarkshire.
The works will take place at the reservoir which is located to the south east of Caldercruix, Airdrie.

In 2024, Scottish Canals launched a programme of maintenance and upgrade works at Lilly Loch, which is a controlled reservoir under the Reservoirs (Scotland) Act 2011. The main requirement was to increase the existing drawdown capacity of the pipework as it was of insufficient size to meet drawdown rates required in the event of an emergency.Â
These works are classed as Measures in the Interests of Safety (MIOS) and were deemed essential to safeguarding the integrity of the reservoir and managing the risk of flooding to the locality and downstream communities.Â
Update (5th March 2025)
The construction phase of the project is now completed. The new drawdown pipework will be commissioned once water levels are sufficiently restored over the coming weeks.
