Crinan Canal - Service Alterations
Following an extremely dry autumn and winter in 2024, Crinan Canal's water reservoirs did not fill before summer. We are now working under drought conditions. To ensure water conservation and that we manage water resources as far into the season as possible, Scottish Canals advise customers on the Crinan Canal of some alterations to normal service, starting 16 April 2025.Â

Vessel DraftÂ
At present there's a boat draft restriction on. We can only accommodate boat with a fresh water draft of 2m and below. Â
Locking Restrictions
Please note that locking in or out at the sea locks will now only be available two hours before and after high tide, regardless of tidal type (including spring tides). Please find sea lock operating times below.
Single Lock-insÂ
Single lock-ins are not water-efficient and we will attempt to group boats together. This may cause delays, please plan accordingly. Where a single craft splits from a group, that vessel may also be held for a period to join other boats in the next  lock-in.Â
We will try  not to cause undue delay and hope that your co-operation will help us maintain service throughout  summer 2025.Â
