Crinan Canal - Service Alterations
Following an extremely dry autumn and winter in 2024, water resource did not reach peak levels in the reservoirs that feed the canal. To ensure water conservation and that we manage water resources as far into the season as possible, Scottish Canals advise customers on the Crinan Canal of some alterations to normal service which will be implemented from 16 April 2025.Â

Vessel DraftÂ
From Wednesday 16 April 2025 we will be restricting the draft for vessels to 2.2m (fresh water).Â
48 hours’ notice is required for vessels with a draft of 2.2m or greater.Â
Vessels with a draft of more than 2.4m will be accommodated Friday and Saturday only, and by prior notification with the local operations team.Â
In the week of spring tide we may delay lock ins at sea locks to conserve water and allow for the tide to reach a peak in the sea locks that supports water usage.Â
Single LockingsÂ
Please note that we will hold single vessels to make effective use of the lock, please prepare in advance for this. Where a single craft “splits” from a group that vessel may also be held for a period to join another locking.Â
We will endeavour not to cause undue delay and hope that your co-operation will help us maintain levels of service throughout the summer period.Â
