Privacy Notice - National Fraud Initiative (NFI)
Scottish Canals is required by law to protect the public funds it administers. It may share information provided to it with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds in order to prevent and detect fraud.
We are required to provide particular sets of data (which may include contact details) to the The Cabinet Office, who undertake the data matching on Audit Scotland's behalf. The main match types and the organisations involved can be found here: National Fraud Initiative - Privacy Notice. Data matching involves comparing records containing personal information between bodies for the purposes of identifying fraudulent claims and payments. Matches may indicate inconsistencies that require further investigation.Â
The processing by Audit Scotland is carried out under the powers in Part 2A of the Public Finance and Accountability (Scotland) Act 2000. It does not require the consent of the individuals concerned under the Data Protection Act 2018.
