The Tour

Want to find out more about the engineering works that go on behind the world’s only rotating boat lift? Then why not book on our tour on Friday, 1st December 2023 at 10am and join us on a journey as we explore the history and workings of this engineering marvel.

The Falkirk Wheel is undergoing revolutionary upgrades this winter and our engineering expert, Ross Speirs (Head of Engineering and Infrastructure) will be on hand to explain the benefits the works will bring to one of Scotland’s most popular tourist attractions.

Chris O’Connell (Heritage Manager) will also be there to walk you around the site providing a fascinating insight into the historic significance this iconic structure has made to those using Scotland’s canals.

Tours will take place on Friday, 1st December 2023, and will include a short presentation inside The Falkirk Wheel’s 'Wheel Room' conference suite, followed by a walk around the site.

We recommend an age limit of 16 plus, please note that the tour will involve walking around the site, if you have any accessibility queries please email: tfw_bookings@scottishcanals.co.uk, prior to booking. 

Please note that this is a heritage walking tour around the perimeter of the site, please dress for the weather.

Timings

Please arrive at the ‘The Wheel Room’ (please see map below for location details) at The Falkirk Wheel at 9.45am for a 10.00am start, teas and coffees will be provided. 

9.45am: Arrival at The Wheel room (tea and coffee provided). 

10.00am – 11.00am: Welcome and presentation with Ross Speirs (Head of Engineering and Infrastructure). 

11.15am – 12.15pm: A heritage walking tour of The Falkirk Wheel works with Chris O’Connell (Heritage Manager). 

Tickets: £10.00 (Parking is currently free).
