Crinan Basin Landscape Engagement Strategy 2024-25
Scottish Canals will be carrying out essential repair work to the Crinan dummy lock during winter 2024/2025.
This upcoming work will give the organisation an opportunity to improve the landscape setting and accessibility at Crinan Basin, in turn benefiting the local community visitors to the popular canal.
We held two public engagement sessions in Crinan and Ardrishaig on the 30th July 2024, after which we sought input on the information panels displayed at the events. The panels from these engagement sessions are available to view below (Plans from Engagement Session 1).
We received many responses, and these were used to inform the next iteration of the plan for Crinan Basin. These revised proposals reflect the clear feedback provided by the community during the initial engagement period, while considering the operational requirements of Scottish Canals.
We held a second in-person engagement event at the Crinan Coffee Shop on the 7th October 2024, where we described the revised proposals for works at the Crinan Basin and gave attendees the opportunity to view the updated design.
This updated design can be viewed by clicking ‘Updated Crinan Basin Landscape Plan’ below.
The project team would like to thank the community for their input into the Crinan Basin engagement.

Falkirk Five Active Travel Trail
Thanks to funding from Falkirk Council made available through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, we are developing a 5km active travel route around The Falkirk Wheel with community designed art benches and bike racks installed at regular intervals around the trail.
