Union Canal Dredging Project To Extend Over Five Weeks From Mid-March

Scottish Canals is planning to conduct dredging operations in a section of the Union Canal between Gogar Bridge the John Scott Russell Aqueduct.
Our operations team, working with contractor Mackenzie Construction Ltd, will set up a pontoon to dredge silt from the canal, which will then be placed in hoppers and transported by tugboat to our site at Gogar Bridge. From here, the material will be sent to a site south of the Falkirk Wheel for treatment.
The work is essential to ensuring that the canal has sufficient depth for vessels to pass through safely.
Information for Visitors and Residents
This section of the canal will be closed to mooring customers for the duration of the works. The towpath will remain open, but we will need to close the access route pictured below.
