The annual Flotilla of Light, organised by the Lowland Canals Association, will return on Saturday 5 November 2022 with a special edition to mark the 200th anniversary of the Union Canal.
Beautifully decorated and illuminated boats, cheery people, live music, community spirit, large smiles on children’s faces…what more can you ask for?
Boats will gather at the Almond Aqueduct near Ratho on the evening of Friday 4th November for a private gathering.
The Flotilla will make its way to Edinburgh on Saturday 5th Nov 2022.
The loud and colourful procession will start at 6.30pm at Harrison Park and the boats will slowly move towards the Lochrin Basin. The first boats will be reaching the Leamington lift bridge around 7pm (and the last ones passing around 7.30pm…)
The public is invited to gather and spread along that urban stretch of the Union Canal to mark the historic occasion!
Anybody holding a lit lantern will receive treats from the passing boats…

The Falkirk Wheel will be operating until Tuesday 8th November to allow for the boats from the Forth & Clyde Canal to return home before the winter closure. Please ensure that you transit through the Wheel before this date if you wish to return to the Forth & Clyde Canal.
Falkirk Five Active Travel Trail
Thanks to funding from Falkirk Council made available through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, we are developing a 5km active travel route around The Falkirk Wheel with community designed art benches and bike racks installed at regular intervals around the trail.
