A dream job on the Caledonian Canal
Nestled in the picturesque village of Fort Augustus, the Caledonian Canal Centre is more than just a workplace—it's a gateway to Scotland's rich history and natural beauty. For those lucky enough to work here, every day is an opportunity to engage with visitors from around the world, share fascinating stories, and contribute to the preservation of a historic landmark.Â
Working at the Caledonian Canal Centre involves a variety of roles, from welcoming visitors to managing the bustling cafĂ© that serves homemade Scottish produce. Our colleagues also help run the gift shop, which offers locally sourced goods and unique souvenirs. Also requiring our staff's attention are the guests staying in the centre's seven holiday rooms, available for booking through our website, providing a cosy retreat for guests wanting to explore the Great Glen and Loch Ness.Â
For our team, this is not just a job—it's a chance to be part of a living history. Employees get to meet people from diverse backgrounds, share Scotland's heritage, and enjoy the breath-taking beauty of the Highlands. Whether you're pouring coffee, serving a delicious meal, or helping a visitor find the perfect souvenir, every day is an adventure.
Meet two of our newest recruits, Anya Reed and Tomer Shimol- a couple working and living on the Caledonian Canal together. The pair met whilst travelling abroad, and later decided to make the move to bonnie Scotland to start their new life together. Anya, originally from Falkirk, was delighted to show Tomer the beautiful landscapes and rich history Scotland has to offer. They currently reside in an idyllic canal side cottage, just a short commute by bike or by foot to their workplace at The Caledonian Canal Centre. We caught up with the dynamic duo to hear all about their experience joining Scottish Canals and embarking on an adventure bursting with #CanalMagic!Â
Check out the video below to find out more about the couple's day - to - day in one of Scotland's most scenic tourist destinations, The Caledonian Canal.
