Falkirk Five Active Travel Trail
Thanks to funding from Falkirk Council made available through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, we are developing a 5km active travel route around The Falkirk Wheel with community designed art benches and bike racks installed at regular intervals around the trail.
This new 5km active travel trail is a circular route from The Falkirk Wheel via Union Canal, Lock 16 and Forth & Clyde Canal. The route will also have several benches throughout the trail for resting, which will be adorned with tiles created by community groups.Â
Make It Glasgow ran a series of community engagement workshops to design and create decorative tiles that will adorn the benches that surround the trail. They have engaged with six local groups including Carmuirs Primary, Go Forth & Clyde, Community Youth Action Group Tamfourhill, Larbert Village Primary, Carmuirs Easter Primary and an open public workshop for local residents and visitors to The Falkirk Wheel. Tiling of the benches will then be carried out by Make It Glasgow using the tiles created in the workshops.
Installation of the benches and bike racks and associated groundworks will be completed by Mackenzie Construction Ltd.
This project is costing ÂŁ76,105Â of capital funding from Falkirk Council made available through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Development and installation works are now complete and tiling will be taking place from October 2024.
