The Falkirk Wheel to light up the night with spectacular new after-dark experience
Scotland’s iconic Falkirk Wheel will be transformed by light, lasers and water this autumn as illumin8 brings a spectacular new after-dark experience to the landmark this September.
For a limited time, visitors will be invited to see The Falkirk Wheel as they’ve never seen it before, as Illumin8 transforms the site into an immersive world of colour, light, music and discovery.
Celebrating 25 years of the Millennium Link Project from which The Falkirk Wheel was later created, the event will see the world-famous landmark come alive after sunset with a breath-taking water and light spectacular, illuminated trails, hidden routes, immersive installations and plenty of surprises to discover along the way.
At the heart of Illumin8, the basin of The Falkirk Wheel will become the stage for a captivating water, light and laser show, using the dramatic backdrop of the Wheel to create something never done before in Falkirk.
But the adventure doesn’t stop there.
Visitors can explore the site after dark, following an enhanced light trek through the landscape and discovering installations and illuminated spaces along the way, offering a new way to experience one of Scotland’s most recognisable landmarks.
And when it’s time to turn up the volume, visitors can head inside for a serious dose of noughties nostalgia. The Visitor Centre will be transformed into a 2000s-inspired Silent Disco, complete with disco balls, atmospheric effects and some of the decade’s biggest hits. Whether your era was Britney, Beyoncé, Busted or the Black Eyed Peas, it’s time to grab your headphones and bring your best moves.
Food, drinks and sweet treats will also be available throughout the evening, with visitors able to warm up by the fire-pits located on the plaza, grab something delicious and take in views of the show.
There will also be a range of activities to make it a memorable experience for all including glow in the dark mini-golf, and guided e-boat tours.
Designed for families, groups of friends, couples and adventurers of all ages, illumin8 combines exploration, light and entertainment to create an autumn night out with a difference.

From the water and light show to the illuminated trails, food, fire and silent disco, there’s something to discover around every corner.
“illumin8 is all about awakening that sense of adventure, and we can’t wait to welcome visitors after dusk.”
