Union Canal: Fountainbridge Towpath Improvements
Scottish Canals is delighted to announce that towpath improvement works are set to get underway from Leamington Lift Bridge to the boundary of Edinburgh Quay.
The project, which is backed by ÂŁ605,000 funding from Scottish Government and developed and delivered through partnership between Scottish Canals and Sustrans, will improve the experience of active travel and leisure users along the canal towpath.
The project will begin on Monday 2nd December 2024 and are expected to be complete by May 2025.
The works will see this section of the towpath paving upgraded, along with the addition of street lighting, and follow on from previously completed paving upgrades at Lochrin Basin and Boroughmuir High School.
The towpath is part of the popular National Cycle Network connecting coast to coast and city to city.
The NCN 75 Link Lochrin Basin towpath works will be delivered through partnership between Scottish Canals, Sustrans and Vastint UK, with minimum disruption to towpath users.
All diversion routes can be found on our ongoing disruptions page.
