Scottish Canals Parliamentary Reception, 1st October 2026
On Thursday 1st October, Scottish Canals held a reception at the Scottish Parliament to mark and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Millennium Link project. This ÂŁ83.5 million project reconnected Scotland's Lowland canals, rescuing them from dereliction and unlocking public value and benefits for generations to come.Â
On Thursday 1st October, we brought together the people who worked on the Millennium Link project, current staff members, elected members and representatives of partner public bodies and the boating community. Cabinet Secretary Stephen Fynn MSP spoke at the event, providing his reflections on the value of the canal network to the people of Scotland, while Martyn Day, MSP for Falkirk East and Linlithgow, sponsored the event and spoke about the role of the Forth & Clyde and Union canals in the lives of people in his constituency and more widely.Â
Read our 25th anniversary press release, which outlines the latest research on the public benefits and economic regeneration delivered by Scotland's canals in the past quarter of a century.Â
