Gairlochy Lock Gate replacement
Progress with the fabrication and installation of new lock gates for Lock 17 on the Caledonian Canal were completed in April 2021.
Leamington Lift Bridge
Following an internal inspection, Leamington Lift Bridge was deemed to be a public safety and operational risk in 2018. Essential works to upgrade the bridge were complete in July 2019.
Almond Feeder
Investigative works to the embankments of the Almond Feeder, the main water supply to the Union Canal, began in 2018/19, and were completed in Autumn 2019.
Old Basin House
Old Basin House occupies a prominent position on Glasgow’s Applecross Street, adjacent to the Scottish Canals Glasgow Office. We’ve recently restored this Category C listed building with support from several funders.
Forth & Clyde Canal bridges
Following the £1.625 million of additional funding from the Scottish Government, we are now able to carry out the works to both Bonnybridge and Twechar Bridges.
Loch Dochfour Reservoir
A study of the dam breach and review of the flood assessment for Loch Dochfour Reservoir was completed in 2018/2019. A breach study is set to take place by March 2021.
Lilly Loch Reservoir
Works to protect the masonry structure of the Lilly Loch Reservoir from potential scour damage in times of flood got underway in 2018/2019. Weir repairs are ongoing in 2020/2021.
Safeguarding Caledonian Canal’s 200-year-old Ness Weir
The 200-year-old Thomas Telford-built Ness Weir on the Caledonian Canal has undergone a major refurbishment, extending the structure’s lifespan by a century.
Re-think the link – Crinan Corridor Charrette
Scottish Canals and Argyll & Bute Council held a series of collaborative design workshops, known as a ‘charrette', to help shape the future of the Crinan Canal Corridor.
